About The department
Department Notice
Philosophy as a subject has been part of Rajganj College since 2009. However, it was in 2017 that the University of North Bengal approved the Honours Course in Philosophy, marking a significant milestone in the department’s development. The department is staffed by one Assistant Professor and one SACT (State Aided College Teacher), both committed to delivering high-quality education and fostering a stimulating learning environment.
The department employs a variety of teaching methodologies to ensure a well-rounded education. These include traditional classroom lectures, seminars, and the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance learning. Active student participation is encouraged through various evaluative techniques such as multiple-choice questions (MCQs), viva-voce, written tests, class presentations, and assignments. These methods not only assess students’ understanding but also help in developing critical thinking and effective communication skills.
Beyond academics, the department is actively involved in organizing cultural and extracurricular activities, which play a crucial role in students’ overall development. These activities are designed to boost students’ morale, enhance their confidence, and foster a sense of community. The faculty members share a close and supportive relationship with the students, creating a conducive atmosphere for learning. This approachable and friendly dynamic ensures that students feel comfortable seeking help and clarifying doubts.
The majority of graduates from the Philosophy department go on to pursue advanced studies, with many enrolling in Master’s programs in Philosophy. This trend underscores the department’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in preparing students for future academic and professional endeavors. Through its comprehensive educational approach, the Philosophy Department at Rajganj College continues to nurture inquisitive minds and cultivate a deep understanding of philosophical thought.
